Our History

Opened in 1911 as The Clayton and rebranded as the Hotel Marshall in the 1930’s, this one-time jazz hot spot was the jewel in the crown of Sacramento’s vivacious music and jazz scene for over 30 years. The stage in the hotel lobby’s famed Clayton Club saw the era’s biggest acts including Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and Cab Calloway.

The new Clayton Club resurrects this musical history. Its décor celebrates this magical era. The creative drink menu features a selection of vintage cocktails with a modern twist to bring guests back to these simpler times.
